Fun in Monterey

This is our 4th day playing tourists in Monterey.   We have a slip in the Municipal Marina with all the sights and conveniences close by.     Greg is on his 3rd game of golf today - Pacific Grove Municipal and Blackhorse Courses .   He wishes to play the world famous Pebble Beach Golf Course but spent all his money on this boat.  Life is full of tradeoffs!    I have wandered about seeing Fisherman's Wharf and the Monterey Aquarium.

Yesterday we rented bicycles and had a wonderful ride on 17 Mile Drive to Carmel.    After 2 Bloody Marys at A W Shucks Cocktail and Oyster Bar, I selected a different route home.   What I thought would be a short cut was a 50 minute uphill grind into Del Monte Forest.   The down part was thrilling, though.

The book that I ordered last week has arrived at the Harbor Master's Office.   I can't believe we started this trip without Exploring the Pacific Coast by Don Douglass & Reanne Hemingway-Douglass.   We were too busy getting the boat ready.   Now I know that our next stop will be the rolly polly anchorage of San Simeon and it cannot be trusted in a SW wind.   It is 80-90 miles away and Greg and I will need to head out of Monterey at 4:00 AM tomorrow to get there before nightfall.  If you do try to dingy ashore at San Simeon to see the Hearst Castle watch out for a wet landing and don't leave the sailboat unattended.   Geez!!!   If you think it is all beautiful sunsets and G&Ts in the cockpit, think again.
